Seibu have serious money, man, no matter how flat the J-economy has been since the '90s. We're talking at least double digit billions of yen. As an A's fan, I laugh in the general direction of this comparison. By the way, Seibu with that way Mori managed in the '80s was more like the Reds in their strict enforcement of rules and regs. The A's from the Finley era on as you know were way more iconoclastic. If any team was doing things out of the norm along those lines with characters as players you'd have to look at the Osaka teams like the Kintetsu Buffaloes or Hanshin Tigers back in the '80s.
