The Saitama Seibu Lions and the other 11 teams held the NPB Draft meeting together on Thursday night. For the first round, there was a divide in opinion as eight teams selected their player with no opposition.
The Lions were one of them, taking RHP Keito Kawajiri of Asia University as their nomination.
Kawajiri, originally from Toyama prefecture, had one of the fastest pitches at 158 km/H and threw a no-hitter in his senior season. He has experience as both a reliever and starter.
As a hard thrower, this has the makings of a strong relief pitcher who can power his way through batters. He can also throw a slider and a splitter.
